The cotton is 100% naturally coloured and GOTS-certified. Naturally coloured cotton grows in shades of cream, tan and soft brown rather than white, so it never needs dyeing. For a garment babies pull off and chew on regularly, skipping the dye step removes an entire category of chemical exposure. Coffee is the darker of the two mesh shades — a rich brown that hides marks better than the lighter tones, which is worth something once crawling starts.
